The theme for this year’s holiday club at Wingate was ‘Precious Treasure’.  On Monday we had 74 children and Tuesday – Friday we had over 100 children attending.  The children played games, made crafts, learnt memory verses, listened to Bible stories, sang songs and played more games! They learnt that they are precious to God and that He has a plan and a purpose for their lives, that God loves everyone and wants them as His treasure and that the greatest treasure God gives us is the gift of His son Jesus to forgive our sins.  Some of the crafts we had fun making were ‘God glasses’ - to remind us to see people as God sees them, decorated name badges, peg dolls and necklaces.  At the end of each morning the children and staff ate a cooked meal together – my first experiences of Zimbabwean cuisine!  My parents spent years making sure I ate with a knife and fork and in the matter of a week all their hard work was undone as I enjoyed eating sadza and kapenta with my fingers!  The children really seemed to enjoy the week and although it was a bit of a culture shock for me, it was a real privilege to speak God’s word into these children’s lives.
